The reason I love video games
My chest hurts.
I can feel more successful when playing video games than doing anything in real life, because since I play multiplayer games I’ll occasionally get complimented on my work, and that just feel nice. You feel… appreciated.
"You know what i think is so exciting about creating a game for people is that you get to put the spectator in this world." - Sigourney Weaver
(Stated during the Alien: Isolation interview.)
I feel her statement explains one of the main reasons why we play video games. We like to get away from it all after school or a long day of work. Just dive into another world where the possibilities are endless. You can do whatever you want to do. Fly, Explore space without ever leaving the comfort of your house, Race through the streets of LA without worrying about actually getting arrested.
I’m sure that’s why older people watch TV so much. They like feeling like they’re in the main characters shoes. They feel the consequences the character receives through their decisions. And, sometimes wonder… What would I do in their shoes?
